About
John Harlan Hughes has wanted to write a novel set in Morocco since he first visited there as a boy, explored Spanish Foreign Legion forts (not French), learned about the Rif War and Spanish Civil War. After receiving a doctorate in history in the UK, writing nonfiction, teaching in the United States and Canada - among other things - he finally wrote that novel.
Dead in Tangier, the first Captain Equi mystery novel, is set in Tangier against intrigues in Spanish Morocco that ignited Spain’s civil war in 1936. He now lives in Vancouver, Canada and like Equi is an avid cyclist who loves exploring Tuscany – his sleuth’s home region -- on two wheels.
